The
Donald tries to trump Pebble Beach
Donald Trump's golf empire will soon double in size.
He has purchased the financially plagued Ocean Trails
Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., as well
as Lamington Farm, a 520-acre estate in New Jersey once
owned by automobile impresario John DeLorean.
A yet-to-be-designed Tom Fazio golf course will be built
on the property, according to Trump.
Lamington Farm will now be called Trump National at
Lamington Farm, while Ocean Trails' new name is Trump
National Los Angeles. This is not to be confused with
the already operational Trump National in Briarcliff
Manor, N.Y., and Trump International in West Palm Beach.
Think this guy likes his name? |
| Trump told Golf Digest that Ocean
Trails, including the 18th hole that was destroyed by
a landslide in 1999, will be refurbished by Pete Dye.
But unlike Trump's other courses, it will remain open
to the public, with a green fee in the $350 range. "Pebble
Beach really isn't on the ocean. It's on Carmel Bay,"
Trump says, comparing his green fee to Pebble's $375
fee for nonresort guests. "Ocean Trails really
overlooks the Pacific Ocean."
